Dr. Alan Lechusza Aquallo (Lusieno/Maidu) defines his work through a critical philosophy toward the Indigeonizing of education and artistic expression. Research topics and projects produced by Dr. Lechusza Aquallo reside in the areas of Native Hip Hop, the expressive arts, and the development of Native/Indigenous critical theories. Dr. Lechusza Aquallo’s writing and ambitious publishing agenda bring together Native and non-Native aesthetics and epistemologies through dynamic intersectionality.
Dr. Lechusza Aquallo engages his deep resource-rich understanding to question and redefine how we see Native/Indigenous culture, customs, artistic expressions, and knowledge. His work is centered on the necessity to disturb assumptions of power to resist and challenge colonial/settler ideologies to realign the importance of tribal sovereignty, self-determination, equity, and socio-political justice.
